In the floor is a large Roman Mosaic pavement excavated from the site of an imposing town-house built nearby during the Roman occupation. There is still a great deal of artistry and skill evident in its design and structure. A notable (and rare) feature of this mosaic is the inclusion of a kind of ‘signature’ in the form of a pomegranate, twig, and leaf. There was a Romano-British mosaic design and manufacture studio/workshop in the town. This mosaic is one of several in the museum.
