Wednesday 10th April 2019
From 19:30 until 21:00
Venue: St Mary’s Church, Edward Road Dorchester, Dorset DT1 2HL
Since his debut in the Southbank Centre at age 23, British pianist Alexander Soares has garnered a reputation as an artist who combines huge intensity, clarity and intellect. Since winning the Gold Medal in the prestigious Royal Overseas League Competition in 2015, he has performed in major venues and festivals across the U.K., Europe and United States, and broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on numerous occasions.
‘The recital usefully — thrillingly — ended with Boulez’s earliest published work, the 12 Notations (1945), piano miniatures each 12 bars long and 12-note in idiom…in Alexander Soares’s brilliantly unbuttoned account, the crazed toccata of No 2 sounded sufficiently orchestral.’ - Paul Driver The Sunday Times
"Diamond clarity and authority" - BBC Radio 3 .
- Bach English Suite No. 3 in G minor BWV 808
- Albeniz Iberia (selection to be decided)
- Ravel Gaspard de la nuit
- Beethoven Sonata No. 32, Op. 111
N.B. The Society’s AGM will take place before this concert at 6.30 p.m. in St Mary’s Church.
Dorset County Museum Music Society
Six fine professional chamber concerts given in St Mary’s Church and the United Church Dorchester. These temporary venues are necessitated by the closure of the Dorset County Museum building and its wonderful Victorian Hall, the home of the DCMMS for 44 years, during the extensive and hugely exciting building works - Tomorrow's Museum for Dorset - funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund. We look forward to our return to the Museum for the start of the 2020/2021 season.
