Natural Dorset

Covering 250 million years of natural history from the Triassic Period up until the present day, Natural Dorset will tell the compelling story of Dorset’s landscape and human interaction with it. Using our geology, palaeontology, natural history, fine art and literature collections, the gallery will demonstrate how Dorset’s geology has determined the form of the land and the nature of the soil which, in turn, has determined what use the land is put to; how people have actively shaped the landscape and how plants and animals have made use of the resulting habits and special environments.
