People's Dorset

Located on the first floor, this gallery will tell the story of Dorset’s people, from around 400,000BC up to the present day. The gallery will make use of the Museum’s internationally significant archaeology collection, as well as the Social History, Costume and Textiles, Fine Art and Literary collections.  It will create an engaging, people-centred narrative, exploring why Dorset’s landscape encouraged a particular mode of living for its inhabitants, and what it was/is like to live in the county. The idea of place, and people’s experience of living in a place, will be a central theme.
