Russell is a rising start in the piano world. He has frequent standing ovations and loves performing. His technique has been described as “phenomenal” leaving audiences spellbound and in raptures.
This young virtuoso pianist has an enormous repertoire covering the most difficult piano pieces.
Russell began playing the piano at age eight, and began performing soon after.
He entered his grades with top marks, and attended 'high scorer's concerts' in Liverpool hosted by mezzo soprano Mrs Majinsky. He then continued piano tuition with Paul Sheridan, and also took up the clarinet as a second study, entering competitions in both instruments.
Russell won Knowsley Young Musician of the Year and Maghull Festival of Music Competition.
Russell went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music under Sally Ann Macleod. He was 'highly commended in the Rhyzard Bakst Memorial Prize for the Performance of Chopin' at the RNCM and took part in the Haydn Keyboard Festival.
In recent years Russell primarily performed throughout the North West of England, including festivals such as Didsbury Arts Festival, Wirral Festival of Firsts, Heswall Festival, and at other events at Doncaster Museum, Bury Parish Church and Burnley Parish Church. Russell performed the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1 in 2012 with South Liverpool Rehearsal Orchestra.
Now based in South East England, Russell debuted his CD "Romance and the Piano of Russell Thompson" in 2015.
This concert is FREE although a donation of £3 is encouraged to cover costs.
