Dorset County Museum is a great place for families!

Visitors of all ages are welcome to look around the Museum and its fantastic galleries and collections, learn about the past, and have fun at the same time. Children can pick up one of four Museum Trails at reception to follow while they explore the Museum.

Dorset County Museum has a huge range of displays and interactive units designed to appeal to both adults and children. During the year the Museum also runs a varied programme of events and activities ranging from making tiles, looking at mosaics, investigating the landscape and finding out about Roman food, games and mosaics. Subjects for family activities in 2010 include printing, craft workshops, making a wig and our annual sleepover.

Many of the Museum's Galleries have interactive workstations and specific challenges and activities for children such as the fossil discovery table in the Geology Gallery. In addition there are activity carts in the Victorian Gallery and in the Archaeology Gallery to keep children amused with puzzles, quizzes, dressing up and drawing activities based around the Museum collections.

What is there to do?
Both children and grown-ups can explore the collections in exciting and fun ways with our gallery trails and carts. Special holiday activities are also held during each school holiday.

For children aged between 7 and 14 years we also have the Museum Club, which meets one Saturday per month.

Follow Monty Mouse around the museum with younger children or test your super sleuth skills with the Roman Quiz.
