Creating Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset will cost £15.3 million. Through the National Lottery Heritage Fund, National Lottery players are supporting the project with a grant of over £11.34m. We have already raised £3.2m from Trusts and Foundations, local authorities and generous individual donors. We need your help to raise the final £753,000.
Do you share our aim in Making Dorset Proud? This is a wonderful county with a fantastic history, and a Museum with collections equal to some of the best in the UK. Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset will transform the Museum, for the collections and for generations of people who want to explore and enjoy its treasures. A donation, large or small, will help realise Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset. There are various ways in which you can give to make your donation both easy for you and valuable as possible for the Museum. There are many ways to give: online, by cheque or bank transfer, a single payment or a regular amount.
Donate Online
You can make a donation to the project here, either one-off or spread over a period of time. Please don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation – it makes it 25% more valuable to the Museum at no extra cost to you.
Cheque or bank transfer
You can download the Gift Aid application via the link below and post it, together with the cheque, to Amy Buzza-Blackwell, Head of Development, Dorset County Museum Offices, The Old Warehouse, 31a Durngate Street, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 1JP. Please make cheques payable to DNHAS, include your name and address, even if you don’t want your gift to be acknowledged publicly. We will want to say ‘thank you’.
Become part of Dorset’s History
We want to make sure all donors, large and small, are recognised for their part in creating Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset. All donors will be named in a book to be kept in the new Museum unless, of course, you request anonymity.
The name of anyone giving a total of £1,000 (ex Gift Aid) or more will be included on a permanent Donor’s Wall in the new Atrium.
Before you give, and if you’d like to know more about the project and its individual elements, please get in touch. Your first contact will be Amy who’ll be able to answer any questions you have by email, on the phone or over a cup of tea.

Volunteer
The Museum relies on the dedication of its wonderful volunteers to run all aspects of museum life. Whilst we build your new Museum, we will not be recruiting any additional volunteers. However, there will be plenty of exciting opportunities to work at the Museum when we reopen in 2021. Please sign up below, to be the first to hear about new volunteering opportunities.
