About the Dorset County Museum Music Society

Six fine professional chamber concerts given in St Mary’s Church and the United Church Dorchester. These temporary venues are necessitated by the closure of the Dorset County Museum building and its wonderful Victorian Hall, the home of the DCMMS for 44 years, during the extensive and hugely exciting building works – Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset – funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund. We look forward to our return to the Museum for the start of the 2020/2021 season.

We are grateful to the authorities at St Mary’s Church for permission to use this fine venue, home to so many of Dorchester’s principal concerts, for this season. Our home for the first forty four years of our history was, of course, the wonderful Victorian Hall at the Dorset County Museum.  As you will know, the museum is currently undergoing extensive and hugely exciting building works, substantially funded thorough the Heritage Lottery Fund. When it reopens as ‘Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset’ the Victorian Hall, commented on so favourably by all artists performing for us, will remain unchanged but the rest of the building will provide a more flexible and welcoming venue for our activities. Plans are already in hand to celebrate this ‘glorious return’ with an outstanding series of concerts.
